"English and Me, We Are Ready for Life"
By: Hun Lien Lau
America is a modern and fancy country. It is a world of challenges and competition. To be able to survive the daily challenges of living in this country, everyone has to learn English as a second language, as I did. I struggled a lot to deal with people. Due to having so many classes from "Friends of READ/OC", I can now talk and find solutions to my problems. I had two tutors teach me English. They knew exactly how to address my needs. I learned writing, reading and American culture. Now I feel comfortable meeting and talking with people. I have attended many different workshops to increase my knowledge. This makes me more interested in learning English and learning from the people I meet. I feel so happy that I am not alone. I am able to express myself in the vernacular- oral or written. Learning about parliamentary procedures is one of the things I learned from the program. I would like to thank all the people who have supported me and helped me improved my English. The confidence and self-esteem they helped me develop are priceless. I hope this program continues to grow and contribute to society.
